How We Created a Fun, Dinosaur-Themed Bathroom for Our Son

When it came time to design a bathroom for our son Miles, I knew I wanted something that felt playful and colorful—but still cute and cohesive with our home’s style. After all, kids’ spaces don’t have to feel chaotic or over-the-top! Our solution? A dinosaur-themed bathroom that’s full of personality, but still easy on the eyes.

Start with a Neutral Base
Even though the theme is dinosaurs, we kept the walls and larger surfaces neutral—soft whites and black hues make the space feel bright and clean. This also gives the playful elements room to shine without overwhelming the space.

Add Fun, Unexpected Pops of Color
From the shower curtain to towels and rugs, we leaned into fun, saturated colors—greens, blues, and yellows—that tie into the dinosaur theme. A colorful bath mat or dinosaur-shaped soap dispenser instantly makes the room feel more playful without going overboard.

Dino Decor That’s Functional
We added wall decals and framed prints with cute, kid-friendly dinosaurs. These are easy to swap out as tastes change and don’t take up valuable counter space. Small touches like dinosaur toothbrush holders, a themed wastebasket, and fun hooks make the room functional while keeping the theme cohesive.

Balance is Key
Even in a themed bathroom, balance is everything. We paired the playful dinosaur elements with simple, modern fixtures and clean lines so the room doesn’t feel too busy. It’s a fun space, but it still feels like part of our home.

Make It Kid-Friendly
We kept the little things in mind: step stools, easy-to-grip faucets, and a clutter-free counter. This way, the space is fun for our toddler but also functional for daily routines.

The Result
A bathroom that’s bright, cheerful, and full of personality—but still practical and stylish. It’s a space our little one loves, and one we actually enjoy being in too.

Creating a themed bathroom doesn’t have to be overwhelming—stick with a neutral base, add pops of color, and focus on fun, functional details. You’ll have a space that’s both playful for kids and beautiful for the whole family.
